2. Data we collect

We collect the following personal data when users create an account:

  • Email address
  • Password, stored only in hashed form

We also process technical data necessary for the functioning and security of the service, such as authentication data, API key usage, system logs and payment status.

3. How we use data

Personal data is used to:

  • Create and manage user accounts
  • Provide access to the SocketNews dashboard, API and socket service
  • Manage API keys
  • Manage subscriptions, billing status and payment-related access
  • Ensure security, prevent abuse and protect the service
  • Comply with legal, tax and accounting obligations

4. Legal basis

We process personal data based on:

  • Performance of a contract, to provide the service and manage subscriptions
  • Legal obligations, including tax and accounting requirements
  • Legitimate interest, including service security, abuse prevention and system integrity

5. Payments

Payments are processed by Stripe. SocketNews does not store full payment card details.

Stripe may process payment data, billing data and transaction data according to its own privacy policy and legal obligations.

When an account is deleted, associated subscriptions may be terminated and the Stripe customer record may be deleted or deactivated where technically and legally possible. Some payment and transaction information may still be retained by Stripe or by SocketNews where required for legal, tax, accounting, fraud-prevention or security purposes.

6. Analytics

We use privacy-friendly analytics, such as Plausible Analytics or a similar self-hosted privacy-first analytics solution, to understand general usage trends.

We do not use analytics for user profiling or behavioral advertising.

7. News data and public information

SocketNews processes publicly available information from news sources.

This may include references to public figures, organizations, political parties, brands, countries and other entities. Such information is processed solely to generate structured news information and is not used for profiling SocketNews users.

8. Data retention

Account data is retained for as long as the account remains active.

When a user deletes their account, access to the service is terminated and account-related data is deleted or anonymized where technically possible.

Some information may be retained for the period required by applicable legal, tax, accounting, fraud-prevention or security obligations.

9. Account deletion

Users may delete their account directly from the dashboard.

Account deletion immediately terminates access to the dashboard, API and socket service, and terminates active subscriptions and channels for technical and security reasons.

Account deletion is irreversible. Some records may remain where retention is required by law or necessary for legitimate security, accounting or fraud-prevention purposes.
